Moycullen's victory against Cappataggle places the team in their first final since being relegated from Senior ranks. This group lost out narrowly to both Tommie Larkins and Cappatagle in 2007 and 2008, only to see both teams make it to All Ireland final day in Croke Park subsequently. In 1997 and 1999 a team powered by the U21 winners of 1992 lost semi-finals to Meelick Eyrecourt and Leitrim -Kilnadeema both of whom also went on to win the title and have extended stays at senior level.

Moycullen meet Killimordaly in the final and many of the both teams present squads played in the 2007 U21B final, which Killimordaly won after a replay with an injury time goal.

Backroom team members Fergal Clancy, Tom Faherty, Caoimh Davoren and Peter Hanley who were all part of those 1997/1999 defeats and the present squad do not lack motivation in making sure this opportunity does not pass.
