Galway Hurling Review Report

The report of the Hurling Review Committee was launched on Monday November 28th. While the report has seven different areas under analysis most immediate inter will fall on the new club championship structure proposed for 2012 and to be run on a two year trial basis.

Basic format is 21 teams in Senior with the Intermediate champions getting a bye through first two rounds guaranteeing them two seasons at Senior.

Round 1              10 teams v 10 teams in open draw; Winners to round 3 losers to Round 2
Round 2                5 losers v 5 losers in open draw; Winners to round 3, losers to relegation group of five teams, bottom team relegated.
Round 3, 4,  5       4 x 4 team groups (15 + Inter champs)
Round 6                Top two in each group play quarter finals in open draw
Round 7                Semifinals
Round 8                Finals

3/4 team in Group phase play in Shield quarter finals with Shield final played as curtainraiser to County Final
