Last Round of Fixtures to Decide Semifinal Line-up

posted 23 Jul 2013, 15:26 by Unknown user
Máigh Cuilinn have maintained an impressive 100% record in their U16B1 Championship to date and currently top the table. It is interesting that Oranmore-Maree a side Máigh Cuilinn beat earlier this year are also unbeaten on top of the B Division.
Mágh Cuilinn followed up their big win against Carnmore with a big win over Salthill/Knocknacarra. Although the goal tally against Annaghdown was halved from 8 to 4, Micheál Bohan will be pleased to have kept his goal intact. While the final score was a comfortable 10 points a Mountbellew/Moylough goal midway through the second half might have meant some nervous last minutes but a Ryan Fox goal was the instant response and left Mágh Cuilinn comfortable by the end.

In the most recent game against Mullagh, the team met its sternest test. Mágh Cuilinn, with 29 goals in five games previously, have developed an appetite for goals and could be accused of not taking easy points but goals are what gave Mágh Cuilinn their narrow halftime lead, with Ryan Fox (3) and Anraoi Whyte (2) sharing five between but with only two Whyte points to add to the total. Mullagh scored some truly glorious scores in their 11 point first half total. A goal just before halftime meant only three points separated the sides at the break. In the second half, Mullagh mounted an impressive comeback reducing the margin to a single point instantly. The game then began a real battle a Mágh Cuilinn restored the margin only for Mullagh to respond. Mágh Cuilinn gradually extended the gap to five points through Anraoi Whyte, Ryan Fox and Daire Davoren, despite an uncharacterically off day from frees, hitting the crossbar and forcing a good save from the keeper. Mullagh did score a late goal but the final whistle blew on the puckout.

As more and more U14s come into the panel, the numbers have swelled even with some others dropping out. All the players have come in and done a job at some point. The players who have played are:

MIcheál Bohan, James Dempsey, Paul Wynn, Daniel Lydon, Seán Barrett, Kyle Cunningham, Dylan Curran, Caleb McGuinness, Ciaran Scully, Tim McDonagh, Micheál Joyce, Kian Mac Lochlainn, David Jackson, Joseph Lydon, Daire Davoren, Anraoi Whyte, Cian Connell, Evan Hurney, Andrew McDonagh, Gerard McDonagh, Ceillan Leonard, Ryan Fox, Aaron Connell, Shane Clancy, Gareth Kenny, Walter McDonagh.
